In the year 2000, Metro de Medellín’s Quality Management System was certified for International Standard NTC-ISO 9002:1994 with metropolitan type public mass transit service scope, confirming the Company’s commitment to provide service quality.

This certification placed the Company at the level of the world’s most important mass transportation systems and enabled it to meet one of its corporate goals: to be a world-class company. The certification was maintained and updated during the following years, broadening the scope to include cable car transit systems, and obtaining certifications in environmental management and in safety and operational health.

  • ISO 9002:1994 certification granted in November 2000.
  •  ISO 9001:2000 certification update granted in November 2003.
  •  ISO 9001:2000 certification update granted in November 2006 with a broader scope to include the Metrocable Cable Cars.
  •  ISO 9001:2008 certification update granted in November 2009.

Certification Category: “Public passenger transportation system with metropolitan train and cable car technology”.

ISO 9001:2008 Exclusions: Numeral 7.3 “Design and Development” does not apply to Metro de Medellín. This exclusion does not affect the Company’s capability to or responsibility of ensuring that the service complies with all specified requirements and applicable laws and regulations.

Environmental Management System ISO 14001

  • ISO 14001:2004 certification granted on April 17 2007.

Certification Category: “Public passenger transportation system with metropolitan train and cable car technology”. It further comprises the rent of real estate and publicity spaces within the Company infrastructure as associated businesses.

Safety and Occupational Health Management System OHSAS 18001

  •  OHSAS 18001:1999 certification granted on July 4, 2007.
  •  OHSAS 18001:2007 certification update granted on May 2009.

Public Management Technical Quality Standard NTCGP 1000

  •  NTCGP 1000:2004 certification granted on August 2009.
