Metro
Metro de Medellín is a Large Capacity Mass Transit Service that runs north-south, north-northeast, northeast-west, and from the center to the west along the metropolitan region of Medellín. As one of the first modern mass transit systems in Colombia, Metro de Medellín epitomizes the region of Antioquia’s most elaborate town-planning initiatives. Two of our lines currently operate with the use of Metro technology:
Line A covers 23.2 kilometers (~14.4 miles) in length. It traverses el Valle de Aburrá from the Niquía station (in the northern region of Bello) to the southern region of Itagüí. The majority of Line A runs parallel to the Medellín river, breaking away from the river so that it passes through the heart of the city. Line A stations include: Niquía, Bello, Madera, Acevedo, Tricentenario, Caribe, Universidad, Hospital, Prado, Parque Berrio, San Antonio, Alpujarra, Exposiciones, Industriales, Poblado, Aguacatala, Ayurá, Envigado, and Itagüí.
Line B covers 5.6 kilometers (~3.5 miles) in length, including five elevated stations and one at ground level. It operates from the central station of San Antonio to the San Javier region in the western part of the city. Line B stations include: San Antonio, San Javier, Santa Lucía, Floresta, Estadio, Suramericana, and Cisneros. |
